Prime and Punishment

This was a quick one for The Verge, but super fun none-the-less. Due to previously arranged holiday plans, I needed to turn it around pretty fast (2 days)... and given it was a feature had to be smart about my workflow.

Luckily the direction was based on a boardgame (Monopoly crossed with Snakes and Ladders). There was also a request that certain game cards, be used to illustrate quotes from the article.

My approach was to create a series of icons that could be used on both the board and cards. As i would be away before all the copy was written, I created an inDesign file where the client could create there own cards, and place them into a precomposed layer in Photoshop for the lede, and export them as pngs for the page.

To quickly produce several spots, I used the card and board artwork  as 3D textures. Created some player pieces and snapped different angles do give me various compositions.

The article is super interesting, read it here: https://www.theverge.com/2018/...
